June 16 (Renewables Now) - Danish renewables developer European Energy A/S intends to build a 110-MW solar park in Latvia, which will be its first project in the Baltic country.
The scheme, set to create the largest photovoltaic (PV) park in Latvia, will be installed in the Targale village in the Ventspils region. It is due to become operational in 2024, European Energy said on Thursday.
Once in operation, the Targale solar park is expected to generate around 110,000 MWh of electricity per year, or enough to supply around 52,000 homes.
At present, European Energy started developing renewable energy projects in Latvia in 2021 and so far it has built a development pipeline that exceeds 1 GW in capacity. The portfolio includes both solar and wind power generation projects.
"Now is the right time to invest in renewable energy projects both due to rising energy prices, the Green Deal and the competitiveness of renewable solutions,” said Alnis Balins, head of European Energy Latvia’s Riga office.
