BlueFloat, Capital Energy unveil 50-MW offshore wind project off Spain

    June 17, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

June 17 (Renewables Now) - Spanish offshore wind specialist BlueFloat Energy and Capital Energy, a relative newcomer to the sector, announced today that they are promoting a 50-MW offshore wind project in waters at the Port of Granadilla on the island of Tenerife, Spain.

The partners named their project Granadilla and said they plan to invest over EUR 120 million (USD 126m) to install the wind farm near the port. The wind farm will work mostly a self-consumption scheme since the bulk of its electricity will be consumed by the port facilities and its concessionaires, according to the announcement.

The wind farm will have five 10-MW turbines mounted on the Elisa gravity-based foundations made of concrete, a substructure technology developed by Spanish engineering company Esteyco and deployed at a test site off the Canary Islands.

The companies said that they are now working through the permitting process before the Tenerife Port Authority. In the next phase, they will be conducting the environmental impact study.
