June 17 (Renewables Now) - San Diego, California-based Borrego on Thursday said it has completed the construction of a portfolio of 15 solar-plus-storage projects for US power generation group AES Corp (NYSE:AES).
The projects are located in Massachusetts and New York and have a combined solar capacity of 96 MW and energy storage capacity of 50 MW/169 MWh. Individual solar installations range from 1.6 MW to 12 MW, with the storage component being from 910 kW/1.7 MWh to 9 MW/17 MWh. Most of the projects are community solar.
The company said these are among its first DC-coupled solar-plus-storage systems, which can produce up to 30% additional annual energy for the same interconnection cost as compared to without storage.
Borrego provides engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and operations and maintenance (O&M) services for solar and storage projects in the US. In May, the company announced a deal to sell its development business together with its project pipeline to energy transition-focused investor ECP.
