June 22 (Renewables Now) - A unit of German power group Steag GmbH has begun construction work on a project for a 12-MWp solar plant combined with two rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems and a storage facility with a capacity of up to 10 MWh in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
Located in Rickertsreute in the region of Lake Constance, the ground-mounted solar plant will be built on an area of 12 hectares (29.65 acres) and will start feeding clean electricity to the public grid in October, Steag said on Monday.
Two solar systems with a combined capacity of 307 kWp will also be set up on the roofs of the barns of the nearby organic farm Rickertsreute. Together with the ground-mounted plant, the three systems will be capable of generating 15 GWh of clean power annually which would be enough to supply between 3,500 and 4,000 average households per year and offset 7,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.
The entire complex should be operational by February 2023.
The facilities will be built by Steag Solar Energy Solutions GmbH (SENS) as a general contractor on behalf of Bechinger e-Energie GmbH. Its manager, Hubert-Alexander Bechinger, owns the Rickertsreute organic farm.
SENS will be responsible also for the construction of the medium-voltage cable for the grid connection of the system.
