Sweden: 22% of planned land-based wind turbines approved in 2021

    June 23, 2022 - M-Brain Nordic News

In Sweden, a study by Westander Klimat och Energi on behalf of wind power trade association Svensk Vindenergi shows that 22% of planned land-based wind turbines were granted final permission by environmental audit delegations in 2021. The study concerns wind power applications for a total of 5,455 turbines in the period 2014 to 2021 that were approved in the first instance, and later finally approved or denied. In total, 45% of these turbines were granted final approval. 68% of approved turbines are located in northern electricity areas 1 and 2, while 32% are located in southern areas 3 and 4. 58% of all decisions in the environmental audit delegation were passed on to a land and environment court, while 13% subsequently were passed to the Land and Environment Court of Appeal.
