Obayashi - Use hydrogen transported from Australia for hydrogen power generation

    June 23, 2022 - ENP Newswire

The Technology Research Association CO2-Free Hydrogen Supply Chain Promotion Organization (HySTRA), Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., Obayashi Gumi Co., Ltd., Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., and Kobe City are the five members of the hydrogen power generation demonstration facility 'Hydrogen CGS Demonstration Plant' in Port Island, Kobe City. In the power generation demonstration in Kobe (hereinafter referred to as this demonstration), hydrogen transported from Australia was used.

Through this demonstration, we were able to show a model case in which the supply chains of 'making,' 'hump,' 'accumulating,' and 'using' for using hydrogen as energy are connected. In Japan, various efforts are being made to create an environment where hydrogen, which does not emit carbon dioxide when used, can be utilized toward the realization of carbon neutrality in 2050. This demonstration is one of the achievements that each of the five parties has taken on the challenge of achieving carbon neutrality, and has been a great achievement for using hydrogen carried from overseas as fuel for power generation in Japan.

Utilizing the experience gained in this demonstration, the five parties will continue to work toward the spread and social implementation of independent hydrogen through a virtuous cycle by creating hydrogen supply and demand through demonstration projects and technological development.
