There is potential to achieve energy transition: Asolmex

    June 23, 2022 - CE Noticias Financieras

      Julio Gutiérrez Periódico La Jornada

      Thursday, June 23, 2022, p. 27Mexico

has the necessary potential to face the transition in terms of electricity generation through solar energy, said Nelson Delgado, general director of the Mexican Solar Energy Association (Asolmex)

      .

The country not only has the potential to reach the energy transition goals, even to exceed the generation goals, they should not even be an objective, they should be a reference, but it is possible to generate much more than the established goals.

He specified that by the end of 2021, of the total electricity generation in Mexico, 71.4 percent is fossil energy, 10.7 percent is hydroelectric, 6.5 percent is wind, 5.3 percent is solar and the rest is other technologies.

The solar energy sector grew 16 times in 5 years, this shows us that Mexico is on a trajectory that perfectly complies with the most optimistic estimates of energy transition, what the studies say is that we still have a lot to grow, he said.
