Omexon and RWE join forces to build 49MW solar plant in Sines

    June 23, 2022 - CE Noticias Financieras

Omexom, VINCI Energies' brand, which operates in the area of energy production, transmission and distribution, has signed an engineering, procurement management and construction contract with the company RWE for the construction of a photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 49 MWp.

The solar plant is located in Morgavel, in the Sines region, in an area of about 100 hectares. The construction has already started and the grid connection is planned for 2023.

"Together with Omexom we will install more than 91,000 bifacial [solar panel] modules that will produce enough green electricity to supply the equivalent of 42,000 Portuguese homes. Once completed, in 2023, these projects will further strengthen our renewable energy footprint in the Iberian Peninsula and make a substantial contribution to achieving local climate targets," said Robert Navarro, President and CEO of RWE Renewables Iberia, in a statement.

RWE, which owns and operates the Morgavel photovoltaic plant, operates in the renewable energy sector and has photovoltaic plants all over the world - including the one in Limondale, Australia, one of the largest in that country. The company wants to expand its green generation capacity to 50GW by 2030 and to do so it is $50 billion by the end of the decade. Its portfolio consists of offshore and onshore wind, solar, hydrogen, batteries, biomass and gas in the markets of Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region.

Gonçalo Sampaio, Managing Director of Omexom Portugal, said in the same statement: "We will execute this important project in Portugal, with a world reference player in the Renewable Energies market as RWE, in a region that offers the perfect conditions to produce solar energy".
