20 kilometers from Viana do Castelo, the three wind towers of the Windfloat Atlantic wind farm have already had livelier hours. In the early hours of Monday, June 20, the farm was producing at full capacity with its 25 megawatts (MW), but over the past three days the wind has slowed down and production from Portugal's first and only offshore wind farm has been fluctuating at more modest levels. Windfloat Atlantic is the country's first step in the emerging offshore wind market, a new frontier in the energy sector where other technologies have been tested but far from commercial maturity.
