Anders Nielsen, CTO of Danish wind turbines manufacturer Vestas, called for slower development of new wind turbines and technologies so that the expansion of offshore-based wind energy can be sped up. He argued that wind turbines should be mass-produced based on established and efficient technologies to ensure that investments can be earned back before companies have to adapt their production to new technologies. Nielsen added that with the massive targets set for offshore wind expansion in the coming years, the rapid introduction of new products would inhibit the industry's ability to scale production op, optimise turbine performance and ensure efficient supply chains.
