June 27 (Renewables Now) - German energy group RWE AG (ETR:RWE) and French marine services group Bourbon have teamed up to bid in a floating wind tender in the French Mediterranean, the parties said today.
Subsidiaries of the companies, RWE Renewables France and Bourbon Subsea Services, have applied to the French government to be selected as eligible bidders for the A06 tender, under which two floating wind sites of about 250 MW each will be developed and potentially expanded to a total capacity of 1.5 GW.
According to the announcement, the tie-up reflects both companies’ ambitions to scale up floating wind operations in France and combines their complementary expertise.
“Our partnership with Bourbon Subsea Services, a market leader in the installation of floating offshore wind farms, supports RWE’s ambition to grow our floating offshore wind portfolio in the French Mediterranean,” said Pierre Peysson, director Offshore France at RWE Renewables France.
RWE has qualified to take part in the A04 offshore tender for a site off the coast of Normandy in partnership with TotalEnergies, as well as in the A05 tender for France’s first commercial floating wind project offshore South Brittany.
