France's Voltalia developing new 1.5-GW solar cluster in Brazil

    June 27, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

June 27 (Renewables Now) - French renewable power producer Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) today announced it is developing a new solar photovoltaic (PV) cluster in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais with a potential capacity exceeding 1.5 GW.

Voltalia said it is working on the new Arinos cluster both for its own account and for third parties, having already entered into a number of partnerships. This includes one with CTG Brasil, which intends to contract a portion of the capacity once the development phase of a project within the cluster is completed.

The French company pointed out that the development of large clusters enables the pooling of infrastructure, connection networks and maintenance. It has already originated two such clusters in Brazil – the 2.4-GW Serra Branca in Rio Grande do Norte and the 1-GW-plus Canudos in Bahia.

Voltalia already has 688 MW of wind and solar power plants in operation within Serra Branca and is currently building an additional 517 MW of solar there, while within Canudos it has a 99-MW wind farm under construction.
