IG Windkraft wants expansion of 100 wheels per year in Lower Austria

    June 28, 2022 - APA EconomicNews Service

In order to ensure a secure and affordable energy supply for Lower Austria, according to Stefan Moidl, Managing Director of IG Windkraft, "the expansion of wind energy is one of the few relevant approaches". According to IG Windkraft, there are currently around 730 wind turbines in Lower Austria, generating 4 TWh of clean wind power per year. With more than 2,500 wheels and a power generation capacity of 40 TWh, the province has "by far the highest wind power potential in Austria". That is more than twice as much as Lower Austria's total gas consumption (19 TWh). In order to counteract the gas crisis, the provincial government already has a large part of the solution in its hands with wind energy, noted Herbert Stava, deputy chairman of IG Windkraft.
