Ørsted orders nearly 1,000 megawatts of offshore wind power to be installed in the North Sea from Siemens Gamesa

    June 28, 2022 - CE Noticias Financieras

The Borkum Riffgrund 3 project, developed by the Danish energy group Ørsted, will be located some 50 kilometers off the coast of Lower Saxony and will become one of the largest offshore wind projects in Germany. The agreement reached with Siemens Gamesa also includes the maintenance contract for the wind farm's turbines. Borkum Riffgrund 3 - SGRE reports - will be equipped with 83 wind turbines of the SG 11.0-200 DD model. Each turbine has a 200-meter diameter rotor and 97-meter long blades, which are about the same size as a first division soccer field. Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has announced that it expects to start installing the machines in 2024 and commissioning in 2025. The German-Spanish company estimates that, "once in operation, it will avoid the emission of 2.5 million tons of CO2".

Marc Becker, CEO of Siemens Gamesa's Offshore Wind Business Unit: "We are delighted to once again collaborate with Ørsted on an offshore project of this scale, capable of providing clean energy to more than one million households in the coming decades, while making a significant contribution to Germany's energy security".

Siemens Gamesa declares a global workforce of more than 25,000 people. The company, which designs, manufactures and supplies wind power solutions, has installed more than 122 gigawatts worldwide over the course of its 40 years in business.
