A study by Swedish energy company Trelleborgs Energi shows that Trelleborg in Skåne County has very good possibilities for large-scale hydrogen production if the plan for offshore wind in the southern part of the Baltic Sea is approved. The hydrogen could be used for industrial purposes, including for the pipeline from Denmark to Germany, or for ammonia production. Ammonia is an important input good for fertilizer production. The need for fertilizers has increased drastically after the war in Ukraine. All alternatives enable hydrogen production in the extent of 200 MW or more. The hydrogen produced could be also exported to Germany. Swiss-Swedish company ABB, energy companies Uniper and Fortum, the Port of Trelleborg, energy company Nordion, Norwegian chemicals company Yara, energy group Adven/Värmevärden, energy company Eolus Vind, wind and solar farm developer OX2, wind developer Kustvind, powdered metal manufacturer Höganäs and Finnish chemicals company Kemira contributed to the study.
