Denmark's Port of Roenne plans more space for wind turbine shipping

    July 1, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

July 1 (Renewables Now) - Denmark’s Ronne Havn A/S, or Port of Roenne A/S, said on Wednesday that it plans to provide additional area for activities related to the shipping of offshore wind turbines because of increased demand for such services.

The operator of the port on the Danish island of Bornholm said it will be advancing the planned future security of the port from the Master Plan 2050 as early as next year, with completion of the site’s reconstruction scheduled for 2025.

Port of Roenne intends to set aside 10 hectares of extra area for wind turbine projects in the southern portion while concentrating most passenger traffic in the northern part. The initiative is subject to regulatory clearance and involves the launch of a tender process.

“We have already prepared our port to take on [offshore wind energy projects] at the port, but we do not have the space to meet the increased interest that will be needed. Therefore, we are now starting a future-proofing of the port, so that within a few years we will be able to handle more and larger wind turbine projects,” commented CEO Lars Nordahl Lemvigh.
