North Texas heat forecast: High of 102; electrical grid conditions normal

August 2, 2022 - Elizabeth Souder, The Dallas Morning News

The Texas summer of 2022 will go down as a scorcher. Triple-digit days continue as new Texans move here each day, and the need for air conditioning is stretching the state’s electricity generation resources.

      Here’s the forecast for Tuesday:

High temperature in North Texas: 102 in Dallas; 103 Fort Worth

Heat index: 105 Dallas and Fort Worth

      Precipitation: none

      Electrical grid conditions: NORMAL

      Committed capacity: 86,100 MW

(This is the capacity that power plant owners have committed to operating today. More capacity may be available in an emergency.)

      Demand: 79,000 MW at 4 p.m.

(This is how much power generation Texans are expected to demand at the peak hour of the day)

Natural gas price: $7.93 per million British thermal units, -4.25%

(NYMEX futures prices. Natural gas is an important fuel for Texas electricity generation, and electricity companies look to natural gas markets as they set their prices for regular customers.)
