KPLC Signs PPA To Secure 200MW From Hydroelectric Power Plant In Ethiopia

News: Kenya Power and Light Company (KPLC) has signed a power purchase agreement with Ethiopia Electric Power to secure output from a hydroelectric power plant as part of the Kenya-Ethiopia Electricity Highway Project. Under the deal, Kenya Power will secure 200MW of electricity in the first phase, with potential to double it in the future. The USD1.3bn project includes the construction of a 1,068km 500kV power transmission line between the grids of Kenya and Ethiopia. The project, funded by the World Bank and the African Development Bank, is likely to start commercial operations in November 2022 (ESI Africa).
