Dutch business customers can no longer buy grey power from Eneco

    August 8, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

August 8 (Renewables Now) - Dutch utility Eneco Groep NV announced that, as of today, new business customers in the Netherlands and existing customers looking for an extension to their contract will be able to buy only green power.

The company said that from now on it will provide products based on European or Dutch wind power or Dutch solar energy to business clients. “As it stands, the societal benefits of these products clearly outweigh their slightly higher price,” its statement reads.

Eneco is already discussing green options with business customers still using grey electricity. The goal is to make the shift as soon as possible.

The utility anticipates all of its business-to-business (B2B) clients to switch to green power by 2026. This would be four years earlier than stipulated in the company’s One Planet Plan.

“This is a significant, high-impact step towards a sustainable future. Apart from it being a necessary step, we also believe that the B2B energy market is now ready to accelerate the energy transition by saying goodbye to grey energy,” commented Dick Velings, director of all of Eneco’s B2B activities in the Netherlands.
