The Texas summer of 2022 will go down as a scorcher. Triple-digits continue as new Texans move here each day, and the need for air conditioning is stretching the state’s electricity generation resources.
Here’s the forecast for Monday:
High temperature in North Texas: 100 in Dallas; 101 Fort Worth
Precipitation: Scattered showers possible this afternoon north of Interstate 20
Electrical grid conditions: NORMAL
Committed power generation capacity: 80,000 MW
(This is the capacity that power plant owners have committed to operating today. More capacity may be available in an emergency.)
Electricity demand: 76,700 MW at 5 p.m.
(This is how much power generation Texans are expected to demand at the peak hour of the day.)
Natural gas price: $7.75 per million British thermal units, -3.92%
(NYMEX futures prices. Natural gas is an important fuel for Texas electricity generation, and electricity companies look to natural gas markets as they set their prices for regular customers.)
