18% of Mexico's clean energy comes from Laguna Verde, says CFE

    August 9, 2022 - CE Noticias Financieras

      Julio Gutiérrez Periódico La Jornada

      Tuesday, August 9, 2022, p. 17The

Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) announced that 18 percent of the clean energy generated in the country is produced at the Laguna Verde nuclear power plant

According to Héctor López, CFE's corporate nuclear coordinator, this plant produces between 4.5 and 4.8 percent of the electricity consumed in the country and represents 8.9 percent of the state-owned company's generation.

In a presentation to members of the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers of the State of Jalisco (CIMEJ), the executive said that after 32 years of operation, the initial investment in the plant has been fully amortized, so the electricity it generates is the cheapest in the energy company.

He pointed out that nuclear power is the cleanest, most reliable and safest source for generating the energy needed in Mexico and the world, which is why 450 reactors are currently operating and 50 more are under construction

The priority is always the safety of the personnel and the surrounding population. It is very important that the personnel is safe and that the 1,400 nuclear professionals working at the plant are protected.

He also stated that Laguna Verde strictly complies with national and international regulations.
