The National Executive Committee of the Colorado Party (CEN) met yesterday afternoon under virtual format, to discuss some issues, highlighting among them an official report on Green Hydrogen and convened the National Convention for Saturday, August 27.
The Minister Omar Paganini, accompanied by the Sub-Secretary Walter Verri and the technical team of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM) working on the subject, reported on the potential of the country in the production of green hydrogen. This is the name given to the production of hydrogen that uses renewable energies, solar and wind, to carry out a process of electrolysis of water.
"The world is advancing in this line as a fundamental element in the policy of reducing global warming, reducing the use of fossil fuels. Renewable energies have been lowering their international price and this opens enormous possibilities for the use of hydrogen in production and transportation," the committee informed through a statement.
The organ also expressed, by way of summary, that "Uruguay has excellent conditions to face the subject, when its energy production is already 97% from renewable sources and has sufficient water availability. A program has been drawn up that aims at full development by 2040, having already completed the pre-feasibility study stage and is now in the process of a call to start applying the methodology in a pilot facility.
For the Colorado Party, the projection of the future would require making the issue a State policy, which is why the Minister will inform all parties. It was an exhaustive analysis, which opened a conversation on a series of questions and clarifications that were asked.
Subsequently, the summons of the Convention was analyzed, which was set for next Saturday 27, in order to receive a report on the Educational Transformation, the Social Security project and the amendments to the Organic Charter. The session was chaired by Carolina Ache, and Dr. Julio María Sanguinetti acted as general secretary.
