Reasons for the increase in electricity prices for residential users in Mendoza

    August 10, 2022 - CE Noticias Financieras

The Ente Provincial Regulador Eléctrico (EPRE) announced the quarterly update of the tariff charts for the period August-October and, according to Resolution No. 146, there will be a slight increase for residential users.

The increase was defined as a consequence of the modification of the supply costs approved by the National Energy Secretariat. Specifically, the fixed and variable charges, applied in the bill, showed an average increase of 0.52% for residential users. This group is made up of 40% of the province's users.

While for non-residential users -with power up to 300 kW- the average increase will be 0.27% in the total amount of the bill . For large users with power over 300 kW, the average variation in the final amount will be -0.21%, depending on the usage factor.

The EPRE made it clear that this tariff chart does not modify the current subsidy scheme, i.e. the segmentation system determined by the national government is not included in these figures.

It should be remembered that the electricity bill has three components; one local (Distribution Added Value), one national (supply cost) and the rest corresponds to taxes. In the case of Mendoza, the last increase in the VAD was in May, with an average increase of 8.8%.

On Thursday, the national government will announce how the new tariff segmentation scheme will be implemented, with a subsidy cap for electricity and gas.

According to the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, the electricity tariff will be subsidized up to 400 kilowatts, reaching 80% of the users, and the same logic will be followed for gas. Meanwhile, the cap will not apply to those who have the social tariff, who will keep the assistance.
