Edison Energy is promoting Southern California Edison (SCE) Demand Response programs, allowing customers to trim their energy bills.
According to a press release, the Demand Response programs will provide financial incentives for SCE customers that voluntarily reduce their energy usage during the peak demand hours of 4 to 9 p.m., which will decrease stress on the power grid and ensure that SCE can meet demand during those peak hours.
SCE customers who own a smart thermostat can sign up for the Smart Energy Program, which offers bill credits for allowing authorized service providers to remotely adjust their A/C usage temporarily during Demand Response events. Applicants may qualify for a one-time $75 sign-up bonus, plus up to $40 annually. Customers can override the events at any time, but this will affect the credits they earn.
A similar summer discount plan will provide billing credits to energy customers, allowing SCE to cycle off their air conditioners during times of high demand. SCE will have technicians install a remote-controlled device on the customer's A/C unit at no cost. Customers can choose to override control at any time, which will also affect their earned credits.
The Power Saver Rewards Program will provide financial incentives for energy consumers to reduce their energy usage during times when the electricity grid is stressed. Participants can earn $2 for each kilowatt-hour of energy saved. Power Saver Rewards events can occur any time from 4 to 9 p.m. between May 1 and Oct. 31.
