Ohio Environmental Council Celebrates Ohio Supreme Court Decision Approving Icebreaker Wind Project Permit

    August 11, 2022 - Targeted News Service

CLEVELAND, Ohio, Aug. 11 (TNStalk) -- The Ohio Environmental Council issued the following statement on Aug. 10, 2022:

North America's first freshwater offshore wind farm was cleared to move forward after the Ohio Supreme Court, in a 6-1 decision, approved a permit for the Icebreaker Wind Project.

In addition to LEEDco's statement on today's ruling, the following statement can be attributed in full or in part to Trish Demeter, Interim Executive Director for the Ohio Environmental Council:

"For more than ten years, the Ohio Environmental Council has carefully studied, strongly supported, and fiercely defended the Icebreaker Wind Project. This innovative clean energy project -- the first freshwater offshore wind farm in North America -- will reduce carbon emissions while creating jobs and injecting millions into the local economy.

"Responsibly developing this offshore wind project will help us not only achieve cleaner air and healthier communities, but it will also put Ohio on the map as a leader in renewable energy technologies. Despite the best efforts of fossil fuel companies and anti-science viewpoints trying to stop this important demonstration project, Icebreaker Wind is one step closer to being built."

"Today's ruling is a huge victory for all Ohioans who deserve bold action on climate change and a healthier environment."
