Among the next steps foreseen, and that will precede its implementation, is the establishment of goals and global monitoring indicators within a period of up to 120 days. Original Press Release:

Aug. 10 -- Ministry of Mines and Energy of Brazil issued the following news release:

      - The initiative will contribute to a structural increase in the storage levels of hydroelectric power plant reservoirs in the country

This Wednesday (08/10), in the Official Gazette (DOU), the Resolution of the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) No. of the Country (PRR), whose elaboration was determined by the law of privatization of Eletrobras, the Law nº 14.182/2021 .

The Plan is structured in actions divided into different implementation horizons, from short to long term, and in four major fronts: Physical Aspects of Reservoirs, Reservoir Operation Dynamics, Planning of Operation and SIN Expansion and Mathematical Modeling.

Among the next steps foreseen, and that will precede its implementation, is the establishment of goals and global monitoring indicators within a period of up to 120 days. The indicators will be put in public consultation by the MME, aiming to collect the contributions of society to improve the proposal and consolidate it within 210 days, to be presented to the CNPE. It is noteworthy that the work will continue to be developed from a multisectoral perspective, in order to privilege both the national energy supply and the preservation of water uses.

In the end, it is expected that the initiatives will contribute, over ten years, to the gradual recovery of storage levels in the reservoirs of Brazilian hydroelectric plants. Another objective is to improve the synergy between the assessments of the Brazilian electricity sector and the management of multiple uses of water, which will result in benefits to society in terms of energy and water security, fostering Brazilian socioeconomic development and the generation of employment and income.

Bearing in mind the strategic character for the country, aligned with the principles of predictability and transparency, at the end of each annual cycle of the PRR, a follow-up and monitoring report of the actions in progress will be published, as well as their impact, measured according to the goals established.

The PRR was developed by the working group established by CNPE Resolution nº 2/2022 , coordinated by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), with the participation of the Ministry of Regional Development (MDR), the Energy Research Company (EPE) and of the National Electric System Operator (ONS).
