Norway: Statnett reports strong increase in congestion revenues

    August 12, 2022 - M-Brain Nordic News

Norwegian state-owned power grid operator Statnett has reported congestion revenues of close to NOK 3bn (EUR 300.76mn USD 306.22mn) in July 2022. So far this year, Statnett's congestion revenues have reached a total of NOK 11.50bn. In 2021, the total congestion revenues amounted to NOK 5.30bn. Congestion revenues arise when power is transferred between areas with different prices. Statnett receives the price difference. In 2022, the price differences within Norway have been extraordinarily high. From January to July 2022, 75% of the congestion revenues come from price differences within Norway. This is the first time that the national congestion revenues account for such a large part. In July 2022, the national congestion revenues amounted to close to NOK 2.3bn. That is more than the total of Q2 2022. Statnett's congestion revenues will be passed on to Statnett's customers.
