K2M to act as technical advisor on 16.8-MW floating wind project in Japan

    August 15, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

August 15 (Renewables Now) - Danish engineering consultancy K2 Management (K2M) on Monday said it has been appointed as technical advisor on the 16.8-MW Goto floating wind farm, which is set to start construction later this year off the shore of Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture in Japan.

The project is being developed by a consortium fronted by Toda Corporation (TYO:1860) and is scheduled to be brought online in 2024.

In its role, K2M will provide pre-construction technical due diligence on all technical aspects of the scheme, with a particular focus on the risks related to floating wind technology and the Japanese market, the firm explained.

Commenting on the project, Rahul Kohli, senior consultant and project manager of the Goto assignment at K2 Management, said “Not only is it Japan's first commercial-scale floating wind project, but its wider construction will provide a strong foundation for the development of the Japanese floating offshore wind industry supply chain.”

The Goto project consortium also involves Eneos Corporation, Osaka Gas, Inpex Corporation, Kansai Electric Power and Chubu Electric Power.
