Approval Granted For 50MW/600MWh LAES Project In Chile

News: Highview Enlasa, a joint venture between UK-based Highview Power and Energia Latina (Enlasa), has secured environmental approval to build a 50MW/600MWh liquid air energy storage (LAES) facility in Chile's region of Atacama. The proposed facility, called ENSICOM or energy without combustion, is estimated to cost USD160.0mn and will liquefy atmospheric air using a Claude cycle before storing it in thermally insulated tanks. Construction is expected to start in Q124, with operations due to start in 2026 (Renewables Now)
