    Brazil's renewables account for over 98% of new additions in Aug

      September 7 (Renewables Now) - Brazil's power sector regulator Aneel announced on Tuesday that the country added 650.14 MW of new power capacity last month of which renewables accounted for more than 98%.

      Solar farms were responsible for the majority with 57% of the total added in August, while wind parks accounted for 34% with 220.15 MW.

      This is the second-best level of additions this year, following the 708.78 MW registered in July.

      Since the beginning of the year, Brazil's electricity system has grown by 3,706 MW of new capacity across all the different technologies.

      At the end of August, Brazil had a total of 184.74 GW installed.

      The agency also said that, at the beginning of September, the country surpassed the mark of 185 GW of installed capacity. As much as 83.26% of the total is produced from clean energy sources, Aneel noted.
