September 9 (Renewables Now) - Energy Vault Holdings Inc (NYSE:NRGV) on Thursday said it has signed a contract to deploy a 68.8-MW/275.2-MWh battery energy storage system at W Power LLC’s Energy Reliability Centre in Stanton, southern California.
The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) deal is with W Power and Wellhead Electric Company Inc, which will operate the project.
The storage facility will be built on Energy Vault Solutions’ (EVS) integration platform and will use EVS’ energy management software. Energy Vault, which is a developer of proprietary long-duration gravity-based energy storage technology, launched EVS in late 2021 as a provider of a technology neutral energy storage management and integration platform.
The company said that the Stanton project is on an accelerated timeline to respond to critical power needs for southern California and is scheduled for completion in the middle of 2023.
According to the announcement, Energy Vault has also been selected by Wellhead Electric as preferred integrator for two more hybrid energy storage projects in southern California. Additional development and deployment support for W Power and Wellhead could represent around 600 MWh in the near term.
