Federal govt sacks CEOs of Pesco, Hesco

    September 16, 2022 - Nation

The federal government has sacked the chief executive officers (CEOs) of Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) and Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco).

The removal of the remaining 8 chief executive officers is also on the cards, official source told The Nation. The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) has removed Engineer Abdul Jabbar as CEO Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and in his place appointed Engineer Gul Nabi Syed as new chief of the company, the source said. Similarly, CEO of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company Noor Ahmad Soomro has also been removed from his post and Riaz Pathan has been appointed as new CEO of the company, the source said.

The government is unsatisfied with the performance of all the 10 chief executive officers (CEOs) and will complete their removal process within next two months, the source said. All the existing CEOs had been inducted by the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI), however they have failed to bring any visible improvement in the XWDiscos performance, the source claimed.

Hot, dry weather likely to prevail over most plain areas

There are 10 Ex-Wapda Discos which include Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO), Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO), Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO), Tribal Electric Supply Company (TESCO), Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO).

The performance of Ex-Wapda Discos has not remained satisfactory with high transmission and distribution losses with some companies recoding losses more than 30pc. The power distribution companies also have low recovery ratios. In 2020-21 the PESCO and HESCO were amongst the high losses making XWDiscos in the country, with 38.18pc and 38.55pc losses respectively. Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) had 35.27pc losess, Quetta Electric Supply Company had 27.92pc losees, Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) 14.93pc losses, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) 11.96pc losses, Tribal Electrci Supply Company (TESCO) 9.58pc losses, Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) 9.28pc losses, Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) 9.23pc losses and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) 8.58pc losses. It has also been decided that in future no retired person will be appointed as chief executive officer (CEO) of any power distribution company, the source added.
