    FirstEnergy Corp names new interim president and chief executive officer

      FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE), a United States-based electric utility company, has named John W Somerhalder II, chair of the FirstEnergy Board of Directors, as its interim president and chief executive officer (CEO), effective September 16, 2022.

      Somerhalder is to replace Steven E. Strah, who has decided to retire as president and CEO of FirstEnergy and as a member of the Board of Directors.

      Somerhalder is to continue to serve as chair of the FirstEnergy Board and work closely with the company's executive team. He has held the position of the chair of the Board and earlier served as vice chair and executive director. He has served as interim president and chief executive officer of CenterPoint Energy, Inc, interim president and chief executive officer of Colonial Pipeline Company, president and chief executive officer and as chairman of the company's Board of AGL Resources Inc. He has held various roles at El Paso Corporation. He has also earlier held directorships with Gulfport Energy Corp., Crestwood Equity Partners LP, Enable Midstream Partners, LP, and SunCoke Energy Partners GP LLC.
