Banks Renewables gets approval for 36-MW wind farm in Scotland

    September 22, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

September 22 (Renewables Now) - UK developer Banks Renewables on Wednesday said its 36-MW Mill Rig wind farm project in Scotland has been approved by South Lanarkshire Council.

The project is located near Darvel in East Ayrshire, straddling the South Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire border. The company said the next steps are detailed design and construction, with the project on course to become operational within three years.

The GBP-40-million (USD 45.4m/EUR 45.8m) project will use six turbines and will be able to generate enough power to meet the needs of some 21,000 homes a year. There will be a local community fund which is expected to bring up to GBP 180,000 in annual revenue. The project is also expected to lead to GBP 11.7 million in local contracts during construction and business rates of GBP 18 million over its lifetime.

Once construction is completed, Mill Rig will be Banks’ fourth operational Scottish facility.

      (GBP 1 = USD 1.134/EUR 1.145)
