Hexicon picks 8-MW Mingyang turbines for Celtic Sea floating wind scheme

    September 22, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

September 22 (Renewables Now) - Swedish floating wind technology company Hexicon AB today said it has appointed Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Ming Yang Smart Energy Group Ltd (SHA:601615) as the preferred turbine supplier for its flagship 32-MW TwinHub project in the UK.

The TwinHub floating wind project is located at the former Wave Hub site off the coast of Cornwall. It secured a Contract for Difference (CfD) from the UK government in July and is set to become the first floating offshore wind park to be installed in the Celtic Sea.

Hexicon has also awarded Mingyang the wind turbine generator front end engineering and design (FEED) contract for the project, which is expected to be commissioned between 2025 and 2027.

The TwinHub project will use Hexicon’s TwinWind floating foundation technology, with each foundation supporting two Mingyang MySE 8.0-180 turbines.

“The cooperation underlines our shared vision of improving the economics of floating wind through innovation,” Mingyang Europe general manager Wei Chen said, adding that the TwinHub project will also showcase the company’s capabilities in “one of the global hotspots for floating wind, and will be a great step forward for our future business in the UK and Europe.”
