First phase of 290-MW Zwartowo solar park in Poland goes online

    September 22, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

September 22 (Renewables Now) - The construction of Poland's largest solar park is progressing with the first 204-MWp phase of the Zwartowo project already feeding clean electricity to the grid.

The first section of the project with a planned total capacity of 290 MWp was connected to the grid in September, EPC contractor Goldbeck Solar said on Thursday. Construction work on the second phase of 86 MWp is set to begin at the start of next year.

Located about 65 km (40.39 mi) northwest of the city of Gdansk, Zwartowo is expected to require total costs of about EUR 200 million (USD 198.12m).

Commenting on the positive impact of the project, Goldbeck Solar's managing director Joachim Goldbeck said: “Through Zwartowo, more than 90,470 households can be supplied with green energy and CO2 emissions can be reduced by about five million tonnes during the project period.”

In May, Goldbeck Solar and its partner Respect Energy S.A. secured a PLN-635-million (USD 132.4m/EUR 133.6m) loan for the project from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Polish lenders PKO BP SA (WSE:PKO) and Pekao SA (WSE:PEO).
