Mainstream places LiDAR at 500-MW Vietnamese offshore wind project

    September 27, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

September 27 (Renewables Now) - Renewables developer Mainstream Renewable Power today said that together with its local partner AIT Corp it has installed a LiDAR unit at the 500-MW Ben Tre offshore wind project in Vietnam, which is targeted to become operational in 2026.

The LiDAR, installed on a fixed platform 40 km (24.9 miles) from the coast of Ben Tre province in Vietnam’s East Sea, will collect data for about 18 months to assess wind conditions.

The scheme is one of only two offshore projects that have been awarded a site survey licence. It has also completed unexploded ordinance survey (UXO) and geotechnical investigations, and the LiDAR installation is the latest milestone in the development process.

The Ben Tre project is expected to represent an investment of USD 1.4 billion (EUR 1.45bn) during its construction.

“The Ben Tre Project has the potential to play a pioneering role in Vietnam’s green energy future and will contribute to the realisation of the Vietnamese government’s ambitions to install 7 GW of offshore wind before 2030,” remarked Bernard Casey, chief operating officer for Mainstream in the APAC region.
