Italy's Energy Dome, Denmark's OErsted Partner Up for Energy Storage Facilities

    September 27, 2022 - Saur News Bureau

Italy-based energy storage solution provider Energy Dome has revealed that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Denmark's OErsted, which is a global leader in offshore wind. This cooperation is to run a feasibility study on the deployment of a 20 MW / 200 MWh energy storage facility employing Energy Dome's CO2 battery technology for OErsted sites.

The MoU entails the development of several other CO2 battery energy storage facilities, that offer the potential for the first 20 MW project. The said project is scheduled for construction in the second half of 2024.

      Other Partnerships

As per Energy Dome, the feasibility study project in partnership with OErsted, that will enable the dispatch of renewable energy over a period of 10 hours or longer, is a milestone for it as far as the development of multiple commercial CO2 battery energy storage facilities is concerned. The first site under this cooperation is slated to come up in Continental Europe. The milestone comes at a time when Energy Dome's first commercial demonstration facility in Sardinia, Italy will reach completion. This is a new commercial utility-scale facility with 20 MW/200 MWh energy storage site in Sardinia, which will be established under a partnership with Italy's energy company A2A.

Energy Dome also has in the pipeline a slew of projects in Europe, U.S. and other regions around the world.

Kieran White, VP Europe Onshore at OErsted, said, "As a company focused on quickly scaling the build-out of wind, solar, Power-to-X and other renewable energy solutions, we are delighted to work with Energy Dome to explore how we can deploy their innovative long-duration energy storage technology. We consider the CO2 Battery solution to be a really promising alternative for long-duration energy storage. This technology could potentially help us decarbonise electrical grids by making renewable energy dispatchable."

Claudio Spadacini, Founder and CEO of Energy Dome, said, "We are thrilled to collaborate with OErsted, a clean energy pioneer and the world's most sustainable energy company, on our shared vision of deploying as much energy storage as possible to enable 100 % renewable energy on the grid. Energy Dome looks forward to helping OErsted achieve their renewable energy and energy storage goals as they expand into new markets."
