    Sweden: EVs remain cheaper to drive despite increased electricity prices

      EVs remain cheaper to drive than fossil-fuelled equivalents despite the increased electricity prices. Sofia Linder, chief economist of Swedish trade association Mobility Sweden, says that based on the past 12 months and the fuel costs to operate a car, EVs still hold the advantage. Based on the estimate that a petrol-fuelled car can drive for 10 km on 0.73 litres of fuel, the cost per 10 km amounted to about SEK 14.40 in August 2022. For EVs to carry the same cost per 10 km, using the estimate that the average EV spends 2 kWh per 10 km, the price per kWh will have to be about SEK 7.20. Linder says that this could fluctuate depending on how fossil fuel and electricity prices develop in the coming months.
