SoCalGas to use renewable hydrogen produced onsite at [H2] Innovation Experience in Downey

    September 27, 2022 - Resource News International

      International Resource News - 27 September 2022

United States-based Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) is using renewable hydrogen that is produced onsite at its [H2] Innovation Experience in Downey, CA.

The project is intended to showcase the resiliency and reliability of a renewable hydrogen microgrid that can power neighbourhoods.

The [H2] Innovation Experience covers around 2,000 square-foot area and can use reliable and clean hydrogen throughout the year, by drawing power from solar panels on sunny days and converting excess energy into renewable hydrogen that can be stored and then converted back into electricity, as required, through an on-site hydrogen fuel cell. Hydrogen will also be merged with natural gas and utilised in the home's tank-less water heater, clothes dryer, and gas stove, fireplace and BBQ grill. The home is being constructed to LEED Platinum standards.
