Wpd handed positive EIA for 119-MW wind project in Italy

    September 29, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

September 29 (Renewables Now) - German renewables developer Wpd AG said on Thursday it had received notice of the positive environmental impact assessment (EIA) for its 119.35-MW Borgo Mezzanone wind power project in Italy.

After clearing the EIA hurdle, the project can now move to the final construction approval process, the so-called “autorizzazione unica”, or “unified approval”, Wpd said.

The company intends to build Borgo Mezzanone in an area between the towns of Manfredonia and Foggia in the Puglia region. The wind farm will feature 22 turbines capable of generating over 370 GWh of power per year, according to the announcement.

Mauro Ferrari, managing director of Wpd Italia, expressed his satisfaction over the EIA resolution and also commented on the outcome of recent parliamentary elections in Italy, which saw the victory of centre-right parties: “We do not expect any fundamental change in energy policy following the change of government in Italy. The expansion of renewable energies is a consensus in the country and more urgent than ever in view of the energy crisis. It would be desirable, however, if the new government committed itself to speeding up the approval process.”
