Hydro unit No. 10 is being modernized at the Votkinskaya HPP

    September 30, 2022 - Contify Energy News

As part of the implementation of the Program for the Comprehensive Modernization of Hydroelectric Power Plants of RusHydro (PKM), the dismantling of the equipment of hydroelectric unit No. 10 was completed at the Votkinskaya HPP. The updated hydroelectric unit is planned to be put into operation in 2023. Works on the replacement of hydroelectric unit No. 10, which had been in operation for almost 60 years and had reached a high degree of wear, were launched in July of this year.

      Key Highlights:

      * After the complete replacement of the hydraulic power equipment, the station's capacity will increase to 1150 MW, which is 13% more than before the start of the modernization.

      * Over the 10 years of PKM's operation, the increase in the installed capacity of RusHydro's hydroelectric power plants amounted to 553 MW, which can be compared with the appearance of another large hydroelectric power plant as part of the energy holding.

      * During this time, 130 hydraulic turbines, 115 generators, 86 power transformers, as well as more than 10 thousand units of auxiliary equipment were replaced or modernized.

      Original Press Release:

Sept. 28 -- RusHydro issued the following news release:

As part of the implementation of the Program for the Comprehensive Modernization of Hydroelectric Power Plants of RusHydro (PKM), the dismantling of the equipment of hydroelectric unit No. 10 was completed at the Votkinskaya HPP. The updated hydroelectric unit is planned to be put into operation in 2023.

Works on the replacement of hydroelectric unit No. 10, which had been in operation for almost 60 years and had reached a high degree of wear, were launched in July of this year. To date, the hydro generator and hydro turbine, oil pressure unit, control column of the electro-hydraulic regulator, as well as auxiliary equipment of the hydro unit have been completely dismantled. Work has begun on the installation of a new hydroelectric unit. The assembly of the upper crosspiece has been completed, the foundation parts of the impeller chamber are being installed, the stator is being assembled into a ring.

The program for the comprehensive modernization of the Votkinskaya HPP provides for the replacement of all ten hydropower units of the hydroelectric power plant, the corresponding agreement was signed with the Russian power engineering company JSC Power Machines in 2014. Six hydroelectric units have already been replaced at the station. After the complete replacement of the hydraulic power equipment, the station's capacity will increase to 1150 MW, which is 13% more than before the start of the modernization.

RusHydro is implementing the Program for the Comprehensive Modernization of Hydro-Generating Facilities, under which it is planned to replace half of the fleet of turbines, generators and transformers at RusHydro's HPPs and PSPPs. Such a large-scale program for updating obsolete and worn-out equipment for the domestic energy sector is unique and unprecedented. Its peculiarity is the focus not on the spot replacement of individual components and assemblies, but on the comprehensive modernization of generating facilities as single technological complexes, with the replacement or reconstruction of the main and auxiliary equipment, plant-wide systems, hydraulic structures.

Over the 10 years of PKM's operation, the increase in the installed capacity of RusHydro's hydroelectric power plants amounted to 553 MW, which can be compared with the appearance of another large hydroelectric power plant as part of the energy holding. During this time, 130 hydraulic turbines, 115 generators, 86 power transformers, as well as more than 10 thousand units of auxiliary equipment were replaced or modernized.
