Tokayev orders government to consider construction of a modern power plant in Semey

September 30, 2022 - Interfax Kazakhstan General Newswire

ASTANA. Sept 30 (Interfax-Kazakhstan) - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the government to explore a possibility of building a modern power plant in the city of Semey, the administrative center of the Abay region.

"The infrastructure in Semey is extremely worn out. There is no hot water in summer, and no heat is supplied to the residential buildings in winter. Emissions from the existing power plant greatly pollute the air in the city. It's time to resolve these problems once and for all," Tokayev said at a town hall meeting in the Abay region on Friday.

"Therefore, I instruct the government and the regional administration to mull over construction of a modern power plant in Semey, as well as modernization of the city infrastructure. This project will definitely have a positive impact on the quality of life of people and on the environment of the region," the president said.
