Austria : NEOS call for rapid expansion of renewable energies and grid expansion

    October 2, 2022 - Al Bawaba Business

The NEOS are also calling for an emergency package for the rapid expansion of renewable energies. The war of aggression in Ukraine and the gas price explosions as well as climate change with drought and record heat have shown that a contribution to global emission reduction is urgently needed. According to NEOS, the expansion of renewables has now become a matter of economic survival.

The required emergency package must oblige the federal states to set binding expansion targets. In addition, further improvements are needed in the environmental impact assessments, in addition to those already planned, such as in the process support. By the end of the year, the amendment to the Energy Efficiency Act needs to be presented. The NEOS are also concerned with investment subsidies and reducing bureaucracy for geothermal electricity and heat production, a package for the massive expansion of biogas production in Austria, decarbonization and the use of hydrogen and biogenic gases in industrial processes and a template for the EAG network infrastructure plan by the end of this year. In addition, the NEOS call for an ambitious package of measures against the shortage of skilled workers in the energy sector,

In addition, the NEOS are pushing for transparency and innovation in network expansion, connections and charges ( 2753/A(E)). The summer of 2022 has relentlessly explained why the conversion of the energy system to renewable energies will be a question of economic and social survival, according to the thrust. In this context, a package of measures called for by NEOS to optimize the role of distribution system operators in the energy transition includes, among other things, that the distribution system operators should be held accountable with regard to improved transparency, service and communication culture. Accordingly, these should also guarantee connections for renewable systems or guarantee them in the foreseeable future by creating the appropriate infrastructure.
