    October 3, 2022 - Sophia Thomson

A Chinese-Bangladeshi consortium yesterday (4 September 2022) achieved commercial close on the development of a $96.6 million wind farm in southwestern Bangladesh.

Mongla Green Power is the SPV of the 55MW Bagerhat Mongla wind farm in Khulna, the third-largest city in the country.

      The project company's shareholders are:

      • Envision Energy (Jiangsu)China
      • SQ Trading and Engineering – Bangladesh
      • Envision Renewable Energy Bangladesh – Hong Kong

Mongla Green Power has a 20-year PPA with Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) at $0.1320 per kWh.

The SPV aims to complete the project during the next 2 years.

IJGlobal data shows these 4 wind farms under development:

      Inani Wind Farm (50MW) IPP
      Kachua Wind Farm (50MW) IPP
      Mongla-Gollamari Wind Farm (50MW) IPP
Sonagazi Wind and Solar Portfolio (110MW)

The government of Bangladesh in December 2020 approved the proposal by the Chinese-Bangladeshi consortium to develop the wind power plant.

Meanwhile, Chinese environmental protection company U&D Group this month reached commercial close to develop Bangladesh's second waste-to-energy (WtE) plant.
