Ocean Winds' Caledonia offshore wind project issues scoping report

    October 4, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

October 4 (Renewables Now) - The Ocean Winds joint venture (JV) between EDP Renewables (ELI:EDPR) and Engie SA (EPA:ENGI) announced today that the 2-GW Caledonia offshore wind project in the Moray Firth has issued its scoping report to Marine Scotland.

“Caledonia’s Scoping Report comprehensively outlines the options being considered to develop the wind farm and the proposed approach to the project's Environmental Impact Assessment. We have extensive knowledge, experience and relationships in the Moray Firth, and we look forward to engaging with the individuals, organisations and communities who have an interest in the project,” project director Mark Baxter said in a statement.

The document is open to consultation, with a series of public events being held in the first half of November. The goal of the project developer is to file a planning application in 2024.

In January, Ocean Winds secured a bid on a 429-sq-km (165.6 sq miles) seabed area known as NE4 in the outer Moray Firth as part of the ScotWind process. The company expects to fully commission the wind park in 2030, at which point it will be able to meet the average electricity needs of around two million homes.
