JinkoSolar says it is now over 50% renewables powered

November 15 (Renewables Now) - Chinese solar module maker JinkoSolar Holding Co Ltd (NYSE:JKS) on Monday said its global operations are now powered more than 50% by renewable energy.

The company’s global facilities, including 12 factories in four countries -- China, Malaysia, Vietnam and the US, -- operate on 51.3% renewable energy. They use a mix of hydro, solar, and wind energy developed or purchased by the company.

JinkoSolar aims to reach 60% by the end of 2023. It said achieving its 100% goal is getting more difficult due its rapid capacity expansion. According to its most recent forecast, the company expects to ship between 41.5 GW and 43.5 GW of modules in 2022.

JinkoSolar also said that its supply chain partners have committed to reaching 100% renewable energy for its operations linked to JinkoSolar.

JinkoSolar vice president Dany Qian commented that the milestone “is proving the business case that well-managed companies can reduce the greenhouse gases that are causing the climate crisis while simultaneously reducing their energy costs.”
