IberBlue Wind JV plans 990-MW floating wind project off Spain

    November 18, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

November 18 (Renewables Now) - Spanish-Irish joint venture (JV) IberBlue Wind is planning to develop a 990-MW floating wind farm project off the south coast of Spain, the two-months-old company announced on its social media channels.

The group composed of Ireland’s Simply Blue Group and two Spanish firms, Proes Consultores and FF New Energy Ventures, selected the waters of the Alboran Sea in the Mediterranean as the space for the proposed Nao Victoria wind farm development featuring 55 pieces of 18-MW turbines.

The wind farm would occupy a surface of 310 square kilometres (119.7 sq miles) off the coast of the cities of Cadiz and Malaga. Its floating turbines will be installed some 25 to 40 kilometres (15.5-24.9 miles) off the shoreline.

IberBlue Wind has so far submitted an initial project document with technical characteristics of the development to the Spanish ministry for the ecological transition, and initiated contacts with stakeholders local to the project.

The JV was launched in September with a plan for the development of around 2 GW of floating wind projects off the coasts of Spain and Portugal. Nao Victoria is the company's first project.
