Copenhagen (dpa) - Finland's new nuclear reactor Olkiluoto 3 (OL3) continues to face delays and will not be ready to begin regular electricity production until the end of January 2023 at the earliest, according to news outlet TVO on Monday.
"The investigation into the damage at Olkiluoto 3's feedwater pumps will continue still for some weeks, and its impact on the schedule cannot be estimated," reported TVO.
OL3 is the third reactor at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant located on Olkiluoto island off the west coast of Finland.
It was originally scheduled to go into operation in 2009. However, it was started up for regular electricity production over a decade late in December 2021, after repeated delays and increased construction costs.
Finland relies on nuclear power, among other things, to substitute energy imports from Russia. Apart from Olkiluoto, the country has one other power plant with two reactors, Loviisa.
