Energoatom confirms emergency shutdown of South Ukraine nuclear power plant

    November 23, 2022 - ITAR-TASS

KIEV, November 23. /TASS/. Energoatom confirmed Wednesday the emergency shutdown of all power units of the South Ukrainian nuclear power plant in the Nikolayev region.

"Yes. This is due to the destruction of the networks. There is nothing wrong with the station. There is nowhere to issue electricity," the company spokesman Leonid Oleynik told the RBC Ukraine news agency.

Earlier, the Ukrainian news outlet Dumskaya reported that the South Ukrainian nuclear power plant?s power units had been shut down. It was also reported that an emergency shutdown of the Rovno nuclear power plant and the disconnection of the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant from the country's energy system would take place.

As of the beginning of 2022, there were four operating nuclear power plants with 15 power units in Ukraine with a total capacity of 13.88 GW. Another plant, the Chernobyl plant, was decommissioned in 2000. Since March 2022, the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant has been under the protection of the Russian military. --0--zay/vvk
